Description
Ontario) and Montreal without any assistance. “There was a lot of saber rattling going on,” said John R. Grodzinski, a history professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, who specializes in the War of 1812.Yet despite its population advantage, the United States had only about 12,000 men in uniform, including “too many incompetent officers and too many raw, untrained recruits,” explained Donald R. Hickey, a history professor at Wayne State College and author of various books on the War of 1812. A number of other factors also favored Canada at the war’s outset. For one thing, the British controlled the Great Lakes and were therefore better able to move troops and supplies. Moreover, they received support from Canadians, who many Americans falsely believed would welcome them as liberators, and from Native American tribes worried about U.S. expansionism. “The USA was woefully unprepared,” Hickey said. “Plus, the logistical challenges of waging war on a distant frontier were daunting if not insuperable.”

When U.S. General William Hull assembled a force of about 2,000 men and led them to Detroit, the jumping-off point for an intended assault on nearby Fort Malden in Upper Canada, the British found out about his plans by seizing a schooner with his baggage and papers on it. To make matters worse for Hull, about 200 Ohio militiamen refused to go beyond American territory. The general nonetheless remained confident. On July 12, 1812, he took his men across the Detroit River and into Canada, where he immediately issued a written proclamation telling inhabitants that they would “be emancipated from tyranny and oppression.” “Had I any doubt of eventual success I might ask your assistance, but I do not,” Hull declared. “I come prepared for every contingency.”

These words proved immediately laughable. Hull briefly laid siege to Fort Malden but soon withdrew after warriors under the leadership of Shawnee chief Tecumseh intercepted his supply train. British commander Isaac Brock then chased the Americans back across the river and began launching cannon fire at Fort Detroit from the Canadian side. Brock arranged for a bogus document to reach the Americans that told of large numbers of Native Americans approaching Detroit.

I'd rather you change the avi, than Sam Cooke. You fly over to Orlando and I'll check on the motor home situation. But you know, Orlando is still a good 4.5 hour drive from here. So y'all are tiling yourselves? How's that going? I bought a little handsaw thing from QVC a few months ago, and it can supposedly cut through tile....and anything else. I've not cut anything with it yet, but my intention, when I bought it, was to do some handyman stuff around the house. I even subscribed to Handyman magazine. I've not done anything yet, and I don't know where I put the saw, but I hope to find it one day and live the dream that I had a couple of months ago.

So you're appealing to my senses! Sense of taste with your avi and sense of hearing with your feature. Will you leave your house just during the day when they're doing the floors, or the night as well? My parents stayed in their motor home, in their side yard. All the tiling is finished for them though. Y'all have been neck and neck in the remodeling. I know you'll be glad when it's finished.

Seems to be mounting pressure for another referendum alright. Yes it's true, Ireland had to vote twice on Nice and Lisbon which pissed me off, although in the case of Nice, none of the new accession states could join the EU unless we voted in favour of it, for some reason. I don't dispute that the EU is flawed, and that the desire to push the project forward has come at the expense of many a democratic decision in different countries. The EU commission needs to be disbanded. However, reform cannot happen from without, only from within. I (like every other Irish person), am keeping a close eye on the EU. I believe in the IDEA of Europe, it has kept the peace since the end of the second world war, and done much to bring different member states up to the same standard of living, however it needs to be more transparent and accountable. The jury is still out for me, on whether or not the EU is a good thing or a bad thing. If done right, I don't see why Europeans can't or shouldn't, do what Americans did, and create a federated state. We're stronger together. England, Scotland and Wales have shown that to be true.

Hi Al, I shall get back to your most recent comment soon. It's very late here and I need to get to bed. If you are interested, I have uploaded a video showreel of some of my work. I have a degree in animation, and I am currently studying concept art. Here's the link. (https://metajolt.com/watch?v=gje0y2)

Hey mate, don`t worry I can be very blunt myself.I can also be childish and infantile too.Let`s just be grateful we both have G in our lives...The weather today has been glorious! It`s been more like mid april rather than late feb. It`s the kind of weather only Britain seems to have :) Anyway no offence meant or taken, have a splendid weekend.

Hiya again...No I`m not upset in anyway honestly.I just thought what you wrote was a tad tactless..Also I never said she has great taste because of me,I said if I was attracted to her,it would show I had good taste! The compliment implied was towards G.Because of the beautiful person she is,inside and out..I do apologise if I have both offended you or came across as being angry or upset.I am neither I assure you...We both are lucky to have her in our lives, and I hope you and I can continue to be friendly towards each other.I meant no harm towards you in anyway.

Hiya,to be honest with you,I thought I was the most tactless person I know, but you beat me there.hands down!.You insulted G way more than you insulted me.Being attracted to someone has nothing to do with "having nothing better to do".I don`t even understand how that works in your mind? Whether I`m attracted to G or not has nothing to do with boredom or lack of things to do..Do you know G has been THE best friend to me anyone can be.She`s kind, thoughtful, generous and very caring. She`s forgiven me so many times for stuff a lesser friend would have dumped my arse for doing in a heartbeat! I was blessed the day I met her and even more blessed when she decided to be my friend. If more people were like her,not only would metajolt be a better place, but the world would be! I find it ironic that I seem to both know her and respect her more than you do,yet you`ve been her friend twice as long...I don`t mean this comment to be an attack on you,but I didn`t like what you said or inferred about me and especially G. She`s a much better friend than either of us deserve.

Hmmmm Al, seems you’re my biggest admirer right now, as I count 5 comments from you currently on my channel. Though those who know me best, know that I’m not a fan of the admiration, and this is why they put it on there….they know it’s not my thing. Do I have a white top? I have no idea what a white top is. Not sure if I said ‘hairy’ chested man, though it makes no difference to me. Yeah, I can see that not being your thing though. At least you’re close to finishing all of your redecorating/renovating. So are my parents. I would like to also, but I think for us, a complete move would be best. We’re not home enough to oversee any changes, and it also just seems like a big headache.
