Description
Ontario) and Montreal without any assistance. “There was a lot of saber rattling going on,” said John R. Grodzinski, a history professor at the Royal Military College of Canada, who specializes in the War of 1812.Yet despite its population advantage, the United States had only about 12,000 men in uniform, including “too many incompetent officers and too many raw, untrained recruits,” explained Donald R. Hickey, a history professor at Wayne State College and author of various books on the War of 1812. A number of other factors also favored Canada at the war’s outset. For one thing, the British controlled the Great Lakes and were therefore better able to move troops and supplies. Moreover, they received support from Canadians, who many Americans falsely believed would welcome them as liberators, and from Native American tribes worried about U.S. expansionism. “The USA was woefully unprepared,” Hickey said. “Plus, the logistical challenges of waging war on a distant frontier were daunting if not insuperable.”
When U.S. General William Hull assembled a force of about 2,000 men and led them to Detroit, the jumping-off point for an intended assault on nearby Fort Malden in Upper Canada, the British found out about his plans by seizing a schooner with his baggage and papers on it. To make matters worse for Hull, about 200 Ohio militiamen refused to go beyond American territory. The general nonetheless remained confident. On July 12, 1812, he took his men across the Detroit River and into Canada, where he immediately issued a written proclamation telling inhabitants that they would “be emancipated from tyranny and oppression.” “Had I any doubt of eventual success I might ask your assistance, but I do not,” Hull declared. “I come prepared for every contingency.”
These words proved immediately laughable. Hull briefly laid siege to Fort Malden but soon withdrew after warriors under the leadership of Shawnee chief Tecumseh intercepted his supply train. British commander Isaac Brock then chased the Americans back across the river and began launching cannon fire at Fort Detroit from the Canadian side. Brock arranged for a bogus document to reach the Americans that told of large numbers of Native Americans approaching Detroit.

I finally got mom an appointment for Thursday, phew! So the missus got hers today, then? Wait, no….tomorrow (Wednesday). It would be nice if she could get her second one scheduled the same day as yours. Well, America tends to want to do things their/our own way, though borrowing ideas from others isn’t always such a bad idea. So yeah, that’s why we took the “U” out of a ton of words….just to be different. :))

Yea, I remember that a few years back, Mercedes wanted to give their U.S employees all kinds of benefits, but the Republicans stepped in and told them that they couldn't do that, as it would set various precedents for American workers, then they would all American workers would want the same benefits. The GOP are evil. I think the reason that America is currently in the state that it's in, is because it has a population which is about ready to explode. Americans are overworked and stressed to breaking point. haha! Hey, you might have a point there Greg! Women WERE given a break at Christmas time this year. We'll have to make our women cook TWO turkeys next year, to make up for it lol

Beneath the round clear moon with silvery stripes
Twirl around the sylphs, ascending like magic
From herbs of land, in infinite garlands
The people this evening celebrate the new year.
Winter marks the soil with its white chill
And the wind which engulfs between skinny trees
With strength and passion twirls around branches
When it doesn’t weak in a keen wind…
No matter bad weather for those in great joy
Because the new light, growing day after day
In an earlier dawn, with fine silky rays
Whom thousands lives draw from and nourish.
Nature celebrates Imbolc where all is purified
Under the rule of Brigid and Belisama
Receiving offerings from future initiates
And Druids in circle bless water of joy…

Good for Uncle Basil....and good for you! No, she's not reluctant, she just can't get in, and we have her on two lists. Good grief, sounds like a mess with the vaccine over that way. We have our own struggles, but maybe everything will be ironed out sooner rather than later. Can't say I know a whole lot on the US's different invasions of Canada, so lucky for you....or any students of mine, we won't be covering that one.

Congratulations on your upcoming vaccination! I’ve been trying to get my mom vaccinated for weeks, but to no avail. ☹ “bc” is because, for me anyway. It’s my shorthand that I started using in college because (bc) I was having to take notes quickly. Lol….”dumb”, “stupid”, eh, they’re pretty much synonyms. Actually, maybe “ignorant” or “ill-informed” may be better words. But since the people doing the “ill-informing” are in power, the ones listening….believe. The onlookers (people such as myself) are in utter disbelief that people buy the crap being doled out, but it’s bc of several things, of which I’ll refrain from mentioning now. Good luck tomorrow!! Oh, did Uncle Basil get vaccinated?

I very much agree Greg. Trump has destroyed the GOP. Did you hear his son saying, this is no longer the Republican party, this is Donald Trump's Republican party? The arrogance! I hope that we never see the like of those people ever again. Our Covid numbers here in Ireland were quite good before Christmas, but after lock down measures were eased over the Christmas period, our number of infections sky rocketed again. It's sickening. (no pun intended)

If I chose Breathe for title , it's because this word is very important ... and for many people it's the key word .... We all know why ... Breathe to feel alive, to enjoy gifts of nature, to enjoy wind and water upon us ... Moon rules water, emotions ... Breathe her vibes too ... Love ♥
Love ♥
