Several mysterious people after Rikos pendant and I like that see suspects foul play from the dude with the fake letter rather than be naive about it and walk right into a trap. Good writing right there. Then they get serious about capturing Riko and later we see a duel between a Ceruledge and Charizard on a rooftop. I suspect the pendant is related to the Tera Morph gimmick in S/V but in the anime it'll probably have more to it and we saw it create a barrier to save Riko from taking a Psycho Cutter to the face.

To give a quick rundown on Teralising. This feature allows your Pokemon to take a crystal form which gives them another typing. For example with Sprigatito it Teras into a Grass type by default (and it's already a Grass type) but it's possible to set it up so Sprigatito Teras into a Fire type. The mechanic is done via a Tera Orb and it's not something you wear like this pendant is.

I watched EP 1 of the new season of Pokemon this morning. I was expecting an hour long premiere but I guess only half of it got subbed? Well whatever.

Right out of the gate Riko is instantly likable. I can see how you'd compare her to Koguma from Super Cub but I view her as Bocchi (Bocchi the Rock) just without the over the top reactions to social anxiety. Going to a school in Kanto because her parents went there, meets her roommate Anne is overly friendly but messy.

Sprigatito being Rikos starter is nice as I picked Sprigatito in Pokemon Violet. Doesn't seem to fully trust Riko yet and instead goes off and does it's own thing such as napping which is totally a cat thing to do. Leafage is the move it was being trained on and that's an actual move and not a typo or mislabel and Sprigatito starts with it right away in Pokemon S/V. Oddly enough Sprigatito doesn't learn Razor Leaf in game.
