Written by Lou Reed when in the Velvet Underground. The orginal sung by a favorite of Andy Warhol's , the model Nico. I like the version that the reunited Velvet Underground recorded in Paris. (1993)This video was only shown after he died, at some memorial. Someone asked him to do it,at one time, I forgot who and for what. Lou Reed is one of the greatest writers ever, a true poet. Even his 80's albums that have that crap production 80-like, drum machine, and lots of Keyboards, still has those beautiful lyrics. Lyrics however grim or violent, Reed’s terse song-stories rely on humorous and torqued and poignant metaphors, and serve up pop cliches in order to turn them inside out and reveal hidden truths. Stories about lovers, addicts, dropouts, hustlers, artists, and rebels ,he knew firsthand and had absorbed by reading novels, and straight from the streets. In 2006, Reed said: “I wanted to put William Burroughs’s beat era novels and Ginsberg’s Howl into a rock song. And boy did he ever! I F-ing LOVE Lou Reed ! Essential reading !!--->I’ll Be Your Mirror: The Collected Lyrics (2020), could be required reading in a course on the poetics of New York.
