It was the directorial debut of Hideaki Anno, best known as the creator and director of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The title is a combination of the titles of classic tennis manga and anime Aim for the Ace! and hit action drama film Top Gun, whose plot inspired Gunbuster's.[4] To celebrate Gainax's 20th anniversary in 2004, a sequel to Gunbuster, Diebuster (or Gunbuster 2), was released as an OVA. The sequel features new characters and mecha, but retains the format and many of the concepts of the original series. "

I recently came across this torrent Package yesterday,one of my all time fav 80's Mecha/Super Robot Animes,Which I remember watching this OVA Gem short back in 2005,which still holds up well today which I was surprised and releived that this Gem recently got an "English Dub" at long last which was long overdued,which I'm not joking,which took them this long to finnally release an english dub which despite it's huge populariety back in the Day,Gunbuster Fans would not see an english dub of this classic untile almost 35 years later,and for a good reason,because from what I heard,the animation studio Gainex at the time lost the original Sound Files to the Soundtrack and Sound Effects which were recently recovered by Bandai Visual which promted Discotek to finnally produce an English Dub at long last!
