Sweet Jane was written by Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground's leader, as a surreal look at the life of a rock star. It appears on their fourth studio album Loaded. From 1970.
This live version appears on Lou Reed's solo live album "Rock 'n Roll animal"
Oh and about the awesome intro interlude ( the actual song starts at 3:20 ) written and played by Steve Hunter. He has played some of the greatest riffs in rock history - the first solo in Aerosmith's "Train Kept A Rollin'"...
