Bizarre video for a gem of a song. Neil Finn, is a great songwriter. In his 1st band Split Enz alone. With Crowded House he recorded so much great music. But , to me, and himself apparantly, this is his favorite song of all that he wrote. It's from their 4th album from 1993 "Together alone" A critic, said, " the song may be among the quietest in their discography — which, rather than being easy to ignore, only makes you want to listen more intently. Doing so will lead you to its wafting keyboards, hypnotic tablas and Finn embracing these fleeting moments of unity while he’s able. Neil himself said about the song:"The first verse is connected to my childhood, being up this apple tree I used to climb and spy on the neighbours. It’s also connected to the house we had in Melbourne so there’s a mid-life thing too.
But it’s also about your whole life and how you create your private domain. I don’t know that it has a clear narrative but it has a deep sense of atmosphere. Songs are an alternative reality, or they should be.”
