Back in 2009, when jhirzel88 was living at Hanscom AFB, MA, he flipped on 97.7 and heard a continuous loop. This was very unusual because this was coming from a high school radio station. Instead of turning off the transmitter, they put on a national anthem message loop throughout the weekends when school isn't in session. Most of the time when jhirzel88 heard this same station when bike riding in Sudbury where this station is located, it was broadcasting dead-air. Note that the transmitter is on a hill...

Instead of turning off the transmitter, they put on a national anthem message loop throughout the weekends when school isn't in session. Most of the time when jhirzel88 heard this same station when bike riding in Sudbury where this station is located, it was broadcasting dead-air. Note that the transmitter is on a hilltop a few miles from the school, turning it off wouldn't be so easy.
