Description

In 1990, General Motors began re-badging their top-selling Pontiac TranSport minivan for their other car brands, including Chevrolet with the Lumina, and Oldsmobile with the Silhouette. In 1990, General Motors began re-badging their top-selling Pontiac TranSport minivan for their other car brands, including Chevrolet with the Lumina, and Oldsmobile with the Silhouette. The vans were basically identical to the Pontiac TranSport, but allowed them to mix up their advertising to market the same product to different demographics. Throughout the 1990's, Oldsmobile tried with mixed success to rekindle it's brand relevance with a major "new generation" ad campaign.

This particular commercial hired famous actor Leonard Nimoy and his daughter Julie Nimoy more or less to capitalize on the then-new film release of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

All the same, the TranSport remained GM's best-selling minivan, but sales paled in comparison to Chrysler Corporation's sales on the Town and Country, Dodge Caravan series, and Plymouth Voyager minivans through most of the 1990's. Oldsmobile would later be shuttered for good by GM in 2004.
